The British Grand Prix has been part of the Formula One World Championship calendar since 1950. It’s held at the Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire. The British Grand Prix is the oldest race on the F1 calendar, and in 2019 held its 70th anniversary in the sport.
After the Second World War, British circuits were being built on disused airfields – Silverstone is one of those. Designed to be equidistant between Birmingham, the UK’s largest city, and London, the UK’s capital city, it was first raced by Formula 1 in 1950 and was in attendance by King George VI. Formula One would alternate between Silverstone and Aintree, the famous horse racing circuit in Liverpool until 1962. From 1963 until 1986, Silverstone would share the British Grand Prix honours with Brands Hatch. A ruling from the international motorsports governing body implemented long-term contracts for just one circuit per Grand Prix, meaning either Brands Hatch or Silverstone would be the permanent host. Silverstone was deemed as the superior venue and became the home of Formula One in Britain.
Donington Park was announced to be the venue for the British Grand Prix from 2010 onwards, but funding fell through and Silverstone re-signed as the exclusive circuit. Formula One racing will be taking place at Silverstone until 2034 at the earliest.
Silverstone is the home of Formula One and tickets sell out every year. Grab yours while you can from Fanatix.

2024 British Grand Prix SummaryGeorge Russell led a mixed-weather British Grand Prix until Lap 18. Rain began to fall around Lap 27 and Verstappen was the first to pit for intermediate tyres. Russell had to retire from the race on Lap 35 due to his car having a water pressure issue. By Lap 39, the track was drying again and Hamilton swapped to slick tyres early, nursing them to victory and his first since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. He broke Michael Schumacher’s record of most wins at a single circuit, with this being his ninth victory around Silverstone.
